Unfurl: to open up, spread out, be seen, take up space, a growing or blossoming. To show vulnerability and authentic self to the world.
For me, the word unfurl holds so much inspiration. A bird unfolding its wings to soar, for example. How magical and exhilarating that must feel! A flower unfurls its petals revealing delicate beauty and seeds to propagate new life. A fern expands its leaves to the sun and is content to be simply sustained by it. We unfurl flags and set them flying in the breeze, symbolising celebration. When a ship’s sail unfurls and catches the wind, it creates astounding speed and the possibility of unknown adventure.
I see all these things mirrored in the human experience. A heart can open itself up to new love, even after hurt and betrayal. You may want to show your soft underbelly to someone for the first time, indicating that you are ready to trust and receive affection. You may be looking for the courage to reveal a long-held secret, or show someone inside a sacred space within you that no one knows about. Perhaps there is a small persistent voice, starting to get louder, saying ‘I am here, I am alive, I want to be seen and heard’.

Whichever way we interpret it, my goal is to help you open up and find that sense of freedom. I am here to listen to and support that part of you. As human beings we are all emotionally vulnerable at certain times in our lives. We may feel anxious, depressed or just plain stuck. For some, emotions can be churned up by change, loss or transition. Others simply become aware that they have habitual ways of feeling and behaving which repeatedly get in the way of making good choices, sustaining nourishing relationship or finding lasting fulfilment.
My promise to my clients is to listen deeply with all my powers of concentration, to be endlessly curious about your experiences, to provide a safe and supportive environment that allows openness and vulnerability without fear of judgement or criticism. You have strength and resilience that we can uncover together. I will work with you in a creative collaboration that will not only encourage emotional healing, but also include practical guidance to help improve your day-to-day experience. I will support you to feel more authentic and comfortable in your own skin, through gentle exploration of the things that may be blocking or sabotaging your quest for greater happiness and ease.
I gained my psychotherapy qualification at the Psychosynthesis Trust and am a registered member of the BACP, the leading professional association for members of the counselling professions in the UK.

About therapy
In early life, many of us encounter experiences which are difficult to manage, distressing or even traumatic. We protect ourselves by burying aspects of our feelings, needs and identity into our unconscious.
For most of our lives we may function quite adequately, but there may come a time when we reconnect to painful feelings from the past, or to an inner conflict between the defended person we have become and the more authentic person we are meant to be. For some of us, this disturbance expresses itself in a crisis whilst for others there may be a more gradual loss of meaning, vitality and direction.
Psychotherapy is essentially creative. Most often, the impulse to come to therapy is that something in our lives feels broken or just plain wrong. This can be painful and creates an impulse reach out to someone to help us to heal. In psychotherapy, we seek not to paper over the cracks, but to find actual healing. For the brings us into therapy is also a doorway to a more authentic, complete and vital life – that’s how the light gets in.
Psychotherapy is a supportive and guiding relationship with a professional practitioner who has undergone extensive training and personal exploration to understand the dynamics of human experience and psychological development.
Psychotherapy provides a safe and creative space for feelings to be expressed, accepted and transformed so that we can come to experience ourselves as joyful and whole, capable of making good choices for our lives and getting our needs met.
